Printing a model to represent America
Mcor’s September Model of the Month
With the American Presidential election right around the corner I thought it might be nice to print something that’s representative of the United States. We came across this model of the Golden Eagle – not quite the American Bald Eagle but nonetheless an eagle which was officially adopted as the emblem of the United States in 1787.
Along with an official flower and motto, every state has its own official bird. But flying high above them all is the bald eagle, representing the United States of America. Images of the iconic bird can be found just about everywhere, from coins and paper currency to passports and the president’s official seal. But why this bird?
The bald eagle was chosen because of its association with authority and statehood in fact, the eagle had been used as a symbol of governmental power since Roman times.
We printed the golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) which is one of the best-known birds of prey in the Northern Hemisphere. It is the most widely distributed species of eagle. Like all eagles, it belongs to the family Accipitridae. These birds are dark brown, with lighter golden-brown plumage on their napes. Immature eagles of this species typically have white on the tail and often have white markings on the wings.
As you can see our model matches this colour description perfectly – We can match to any pantone colour in a file using our ICC colour maps. This means that our 3D printer will precisely produce industry standard colours as presented in any file. In this case colour adds so much realism to the model making it life like!
The Native Americans consider the bald eagle and the golden eagle to be sacred. As eagles are the highest flying birds they were seen to be nearer to the Creator. The meaning of the Eagle symbol was to signify courage, wisdom and strength and its purpose was as the messenger to the Creator.
JF Kennedy is also noted as saying, “The founding fathers made an appropriate choice when they selected the bald eagle as the emblem of the nation. The fierce beauty and proud independence of this great bird aptly symbolizes the strength and freedom of America.”
Let’s hope this sentiment lives on with the next President of America!
