July Model of the Month: Trophy Fit for Clean Hands
As you can see from our past models of the month, we specialise in diversity! We are always eager to try new applications and explore new territory! So, when we recently were asked to design and print a trophy for a Sports Surgery Clinic located in Dublin we said ‘why not’!
Launched in 2007 SSC introduced world class facilities and treatment in the areas of joint replacement surgery, spinal surgery and sports injuries to Ireland. SSC is a state of the art private hospital that prides itself on ‘infection prevention’ and they even award the best department in this regard! So, when we were approached by their Clinical Nurse Specialist, Emer McNally, to produce a trophy in 3D that would reflect their focus on ‘infection prevention’ we grabbed the opportunity with both hands…..clean hands!
Emer wanted to stimulate as much interest as possible in the planned awards event so producing something in 3D seemed like the route to go!
Like most design jobs it was an iterative process and you can see below some of the designs are apps engineer, Niall Magee, came up with –
Hands are the focus of this design as you can see and some of these designs even incorporated the SSC logo!
We were really happy with the final design which included a pair of hands emerging from the trophy base – these hands were printed in full colour on the Mcor ARKe – truly realistic 3D!
The actual awards event was a great success and the winning department now hangs this trophy in a place of pride!
Emer reiterated saying, “the Hand hygiene trophy proved to be a real novelty and garnered great interest in the awards so we plan to use it every year!”
It is great to see 3D printing having a hand in so many applications particular ones in which full colour is key!
